The record revenue collection signals improved efficiency and compliance in Nigeria's customs operations, which could bolster government revenue and support fiscal stability. The relative stability in the foreign exchange market, credited for the performance, may enhance investor confidence and facilitate international trade.
The Nigeria — Nigeria Customs Service's Nigeria — Apapa Area Command recorded its highest-ever monthly revenue collection of N323 billion in July 2026, surpassing its previous record of N304 billion set in October 2025. The announcement was made by the Customs Area Controller, Emmanuel Oshoba, during a monthly meeting with Deputy Comptrollers and Unit Heads on August 11, 2026. Oshoba attributed the record performance to policy support, operational reforms, improved compliance, and the relative stability of the foreign exchange market under President Bola Tinubu's administration. He specifically highlighted the enhanced B Odogwu digital platform, the One-Stop Shop initiative, and the Authorised Economic Operator framework, which has over 200 beneficiaries, as key contributors. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, was commended for his commitment to modernising the service. Oshoba also stressed the importance of trade facilitation, prompt dispute resolution, and professional stakeholder relations, urging officers to sustain the momentum and focus on productivity and service delivery.
