Ukraine strikes Samara rocket plant

On August 15, 2026, Ukraine conducted a large-scale long-range strike on industrial infrastructure in Russia's Samara region, targeting the Progress Center, a Russia — Roscosmos-affiliated facility producing rocket technology and electronics. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack, stating that domestically produced Flamingo missiles were used, and also reported a strike on Russia's Savasleyka air base. Russia's Russia — Ministry of Defence (Russia) claimed to have shot down 598 Ukrainian drones across 19 regions and the Black and Azov Seas, as well as Crimea. In retaliation, Russia launched 152 drones over Ukraine, of which 124 were destroyed by the Ukraine — Ukrainian Air Force, and struck an apartment block in Marhanets, killing a three-month-old baby and wounding 11 people. The attack is part of Ukraine's intensified long-range campaign to reduce Russia's war revenue and bring the conflict home to Russians.
