The agreement is expected to boost Amber Enterprises' revenue and diversify its business into smartphone manufacturing, potentially positively impacting its stock. It also signals a shift in the Indian smartphone manufacturing landscape, with Chinese brands increasingly relying on local EMS partners, which could benefit companies like Amber and Dixon Technologies (India).
Amber Enterprises India, an electronics manufacturing services firm, announced plans to start manufacturing smartphones for Chinese brands Oppo, BBK Electronics — OnePlus, and Realme. The company has signed a manufacturing collaboration agreement with Oppo Mobiles India. Trial production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2027, with commercial production starting in the first quarter of fiscal year 2028. Amber expects to produce around 8 million units in the first year, doubling to 15-16 million units in the second year. This move reflects a trend among Chinese smartphone brands, which originated from BBK Electronics, to adopt asset-light manufacturing models in India. Vivo, another BBK brand, is also transferring its manufacturing plant to a joint venture with Dixon Technologies (India). Amber also faces margin pressure in its bare printed circuit board business due to rising copper-clad laminate costs, which it plans to address by setting up its own CCL plant by 2029-30.
