The India — National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on August 16, 2026, that it will re-conduct the UGC-NET June 2026 examinations for English, Commerce, and Sociology after a committee found multiple factual, typographical, and translation errors in the question papers. The errors included misspelt names of prominent scholars, garbled book titles, grammatical mistakes, and repetition of previously administered questions. The re-examinations are scheduled for September 9 (English and Commerce) and September 10 (Sociology). No additional fee will be charged. Results for the remaining 84 subjects will be processed as scheduled, and the number of qualifying candidates for assistant professor eligibility will be 6% of those who appeared in the original or retest, whichever is higher. The NTA stated that the defects were too extensive to be cured by dropping questions during the challenge process.
