On August 14, 2026, in Lokoja, Nigeria, Jacob Irewa allegedly set his wife Berida Irawo on fire during a domestic dispute. The incident occurred at Oworo Estate, Felele, after Irawo reportedly burned some of Irewa's clothes without his permission. Irewa allegedly threatened her, fetched petrol from his motorcycle, and set her ablaze. Irawo survived and is receiving treatment at Honey Gold Hospital. The Nigeria — Lagos State Police Command arrested Irewa at the scene. He admitted to the act during interrogation. The police, led by Commissioner Naziru Bello Kankarofi, condemned the attack and stated zero tolerance for domestic violence. Irewa will be charged with attempted culpable homicide after investigation.
