DayOne Data Centers, in collaboration with Cortical Labs and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine), launched Singapore's first Biological Data Center Prototype on August 17, 2026. The prototype deploys a 20-unit CL1 biological computing system, the first independently operated biologically integrated server rack in the world, within a live research environment at NUS Medicine. Biological computing uses living neurons grown from stem cells connected to silicon hardware, offering a more energy-efficient alternative to traditional silicon-based computing. The initiative aligns with Singapore's Green Data Center Roadmap and aims to explore applications in neuro-inspired AI, biomedical modeling, drug discovery, and neurological disease research. DayOne's CEO Jamie Khoo, Cortical Labs' CEO Hon Weng Chong, and NUS Medicine's Professor Rickie Patani highlighted the potential for sustainable computing and commercial application. The prototype is part of DayOne's broader investment in Singapore, including its SG1 data center expected to be operational in early 2027.
