The United States — Federal Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a 636-page chargesheet on August 17, 2026, before the CBI Court in Bhopal, naming Samarth Singh and his mother Giribala Singh as accused in the death of Twisha Sharma, a former actor and model. Twisha was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12, 2026. The chargesheet invokes sections 80(2), 85, 108, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS) along with sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry system in India, alleging mental cruelty and abetment to suicide. The CBI took over the investigation after the India — Madhya Pradesh ordered a second autopsy, which was conducted by a team from AIIMS Delhi on May 24. Both accused, a lawyer and a former district judge respectively, have been in custody for over 70 days. Twisha's family, including her brother Ashish Sharma, has alleged dowry-related harassment and physical violence. The CBI has examined around 150 witnesses and sought permission for a deeper investigation. The accused have denied the allegations and sought bail.
