Afenifere praises Osun governorship election

Nigeria — Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, issued statements praising the conduct and outcome of the Nigeria — Osun State governorship election held on August 15. The group, through its Secretary-General Sola Ebiseni, commended the high voter turnout, which pushed Osun above one million voters, and described the election as free, fair, and credible. Nigeria — Afenifere congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, while also commending the Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its performance. The organisation cautioned that electoral credibility must continue to improve ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to reports, Adeleke, running on the Nigeria — Accord Party platform, won 19 of 30 local government areas with 511,067 votes, defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the Nigeria — All Progressives Congress, who secured 444,815 votes.
