Himachal Pradesh medical equipment procurement

On August 17, 2026, India — Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directed officials to expedite the procurement and installation of medical equipment and machinery worth around Rs 300 crore for health institutions across the state. The directives were issued during a meeting of the India — Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPSMCL) in Shimla. The procurement plan includes tenders for a Rs 75 crore track-based integrated total lab automation system, Rs 50 crore PET scan machines for Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, and various other equipment such as echocardiography machines, digital radiography machines, laparoscopic surgery sets, and blood component separators. A second phase of procurement worth around Rs 83 crore will include Biplane DSA machines, Bone Marrow Transplant and Apheresis Units, robotic surgery equipment, 256-slice CT scanners, and advanced ultrasound systems. The government has also allocated Rs 100 crore for medicines and drugs and Rs 30 crore for medical consumables. Sukhu emphasized that the procurement process must be transparent, competitive, and time-bound, and that automated laboratory systems should be established in medical colleges by the end of the year. The initiative aims to modernize healthcare infrastructure and reduce the need for patients to travel outside their districts for specialized treatment.
