On Monday, the Nigeria commissioned upgraded transmission substations at Ijora and Apapa Road in Lagos, adding 208 MW of bulk transmission capacity. At Ijora, two new 100MVA transformers raised capacity from 90MVA to 230MVA (additional 112MW). At Apapa Road, a new Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) added 96MW, replacing an outdoor transformer used since the original 1985 facility was decommissioned. Minister of Power Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe said the upgrades support President Bola Tinubu's goal of a $1 trillion economy. TCN MD Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz said the upgrades will increase bulk power available to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) for supply to key commercial areas. The commissioning was attended by officials including JICA's Keiji Ishigame and Japan's Ambassador Hideo Suzuki.
