Ogun seals Quantum Packaging over illegal dumpsite

The Nigeria — Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) sealed Quantum Packaging Nigeria Limited, a paper processing company located along Lusada-Igbesa Road in Agbara, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, for allegedly operating an illegal dumpsite and burning waste. The enforcement action, announced on Monday, was based on contraventions of Section 2(b)(a) of the OGWAMA Law 2020 and the Nigeria — Ogun State Environmental and Public Health Law 2006, which prohibit open-air waste burning and unauthorised refuse dumping. Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, stated that the company was identified during comprehensive surveillance of facilities suspected of environmental infractions. He noted that the company had previously been warned after a familiarisation visit revealed indiscriminate waste dumping within its premises instead of using government-accredited waste collectors. Subsequent surveillance discovered a large illegal dumpsite near the factory where waste was being burned to conceal the activity. The company will remain sealed until it shuts down the illegal dumpsite and presents a remediation plan to clear the accumulated waste. The action is part of Nigeria — Ogun State's broader efforts to enforce environmental compliance among industrial operators.
