The appointment signals UOB's strategic focus on capturing cross-border flows between ASEAN and Greater China, potentially strengthening its regional franchise and revenue growth. The move is likely viewed positively by investors as it reinforces UOB's commitment to its core growth strategy, though it is a routine executive change with limited immediate market impact.
United Overseas Bank (UOB) has appointed Tan Choon Hin as its new Head of ASEAN and Greater China, effective 1 September 2026. Tan, currently the bank's Deputy Chief Risk Officer, will oversee UOB's regional business across seven markets, including subsidiaries in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and mainland China, as well as branches in China — Hong Kong and Taiwan. He will report directly to CEO Wee Ee Cheong and join the bank's management executive committee. The newly created role aims to deepen connectivity between UOB's ASEAN and Greater China franchises amid growing trade, investment, and wealth flows, as well as supply-chain shifts into Southeast Asia. Tan will also oversee UOB's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) advisory unit, which has supported over 300 cross-border expansion plans with projected investments of S$5.6 billion in the past six months. Tan brings over 30 years of banking, credit, and risk management experience across the region, having previously served as CEO of UOB Thailand, where he grew it into the country's second-largest foreign bank.
