Arenko has been selected by Hans Christian Ørsted to deploy its Nimbus optimisation, asset management and trading platform at the Iceni battery energy storage project in the UK. Iceni is a 300MW/600MWh utility-scale battery co-located with the 2.9GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm, sharing transmission assets and an onshore grid connection. It is the world's first utility-scale battery directly integrated into offshore transmission infrastructure and is scheduled to become operational in Q1 2027. The project is one of the UK's first large-scale 'pathfinder' co-location projects under the Offshore Transmission Network Review (OTNR), designed to improve coordination between generation and storage and maximise grid efficiency. Arenko's Nimbus platform will manage trading, optimisation and asset management for the battery, supporting real-time decisions on capacity allocation and power market participation. The project is positioned as a blueprint for future co-located energy infrastructure, demonstrating how shared grid connections can increase output, improve system efficiency and reduce the need for additional network build-out.
