Gardaí from the Republic of Ireland — Sligo/Republic of Ireland — County Leitrim Crime Functional Area, supported by the Republic of Ireland — Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, conducted a targeted operation over the weekend of August 14-16, 2026, as part of an ongoing investigation into an organised crime group based in Republic of Ireland — Sligo. During the operation, they stopped and searched two vehicles, one in Republic of Ireland — Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Republic of Ireland — County Leitrim, and another in Republic of Ireland — Keadue, Co Republic of Ireland — County Roscommon. Suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €100,000 was seized, and two people, a man in his 40s and a woman in her 50s, were arrested. The suspects are being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at a Garda station in the North Western Region. The seized drugs will be sent to Republic of Ireland — Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. Investigations are ongoing.
