Boko Haram attack kills eight in Adamawa

On the night of Monday, August 17, 2026, suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Gaya-Dlang community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigeria. The attackers killed eight people, including a police inspector, abducted four girls, set houses ablaze, and looted food supplies. The attack was confirmed by the Chairman of Hong LGA, Aliyu Sa ad (also referred to as Aliyu Yerima Hong), and the Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje. Security forces, including the military, police, hunters, and vigilantes, were deployed to pursue the attackers. The attack is part of a series of insurgent attacks in the area, with a similar incident last month in Zah community. The council chairman noted that 80% of peasant farmers have abandoned their farms due to fear, and a proposed military barracks at Garaha has not yet commenced operations.
