CCTE selects Kinectrics for ANEEL fuel review

Clean Core Thorium Energy (CCTE) has engaged Kinectrics Inc., a division of BWX Technologies Inc., to conduct an independent technical review of its ANEEL thorium-based nuclear fuel qualification program. The review will assess fuel design, manufacturing, safety, and regulatory readiness, supporting future evaluation by utility Fuel Design Authorities as the program advances toward commercial reactor demonstration. This collaboration follows prior agreements with BWX Technologies — BWXT Canada Ltd. for CANDU fuel bundle hardware and Canada — Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Research Facilities for fabrication of full-scale ANEEL fuel bundles. Earlier this year, ANEEL completed accelerated irradiation testing at United States — Idaho National Laboratory's Advanced Test Reactor, achieving burnups exceeding 60 GWd/MTU, and CCTE published a peer-reviewed engineering assessment in Nuclear Engineering and Design. These milestones establish the experimental, manufacturing, and independent technical foundation for ANEEL's commercial demonstration and future deployment.
