Nokia cuts China workforce

Nokia, the Finnish telecom equipment maker, plans to cut most of its workforce in mainland China and close its facilities there in stages by the end of 2026, according to the South China Morning Post, citing sources. The company confirmed it is adjusting its operational footprint in China, citing a steady decline in its China business. Nokia had about 7,200 employees in mainland China, China — Hong Kong, and Taiwan at the end of 2025, with sites in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Qingdao. The layoffs will affect its mobile networks and network infrastructure divisions, with most reductions expected by year end. Only after-sales services would remain, marking a near-total exit from a market where Nokia has operated for over four decades, losing ground to domestic rivals.
