Amazon expands Louisiana data centers to $18B

Amazon announced an additional $6 billion investment in its northwest United States — Louisiana data center development, raising total planned investment to $18 billion and adding a third campus in Shreveport at Resilient Technology Park. The expansion, announced less than six months after the initial $12 billion commitment, is expected to create 210 direct jobs and 499 indirect jobs, with total direct jobs across three campuses reaching up to 750 and indirect jobs estimated at 1,784. Developer BGIN Infrastructure, LLC will build and own the campuses, supporting up to 2,250 construction jobs. Amazon will invest up to $400 million in public water infrastructure and fully fund energy grid upgrades with American Electric Power to avoid passing costs to ratepayers. The company also awarded nearly $500,000 to local nonprofits and plans workforce development programs. The expansion follows United States — Louisiana's efforts to attract AI and digital infrastructure projects, including the United States — Louisiana Ratepayer and Community Protection Initiative established by Governor Jeff Landry in June. Litigation by the Sierra Club over the Shreveport campus remains pending in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
