The July 2026 edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities assessed 32,148 institutions globally. The University of Ibadan (UI) ranked first in Nigeria and 1,291st globally, followed by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) at 1,355th, the University of Nigeria (UNN) at 1,397th, and Covenant University at 1,522nd. No Nigerian university made the global top 1,000. Globally, Harvard University retained the top spot, with American universities occupying seven of the top ten positions. The ranking evaluates institutions based on visibility, openness, and excellence, reflecting digital presence and research impact.
