Edo Governor Swears in Osifo as Education Commissioner

Nigeria — Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo swore in Dr Washington Osifo as the new Commissioner for Education on August 18, 2026, at the Government House in Benin City. Osifo, who had previously served as Commissioner for Education and later for Water Resources, had resigned to pursue a political ambition during the Nigeria — All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries. He was renominated, screened, and cleared by the Nigeria — Lagos State House of Assembly. His appointment followed the resignation of Paddy Iyamu, who stepped down to run for the House of Representatives. At the ceremony, Governor Okpebholo charged Osifo to develop all levels of education in the state. Aghedo Oscar Onaiwu was also sworn in as a member of the Nigeria — Oyo State Local Government Service Commission. Osifo pledged loyalty to the governor and promised to contribute to the development of the education sector.
