On August 18, 2026, the Nigeria — Federal High Court of Nigeria in Lagos convicted and sentenced Mutairu Omowunmi Tawa and Faith Chukwujeku to six months imprisonment each, with an option of a N50,000 fine, for illegally trading and hawking Nigeria — Nigerian naira notes. The convictions followed their arraignment by the Nigeria — Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges under the Nigeria — Central Bank of Nigeria Act. Tawa was found guilty of selling and trading N850,000 at Salamagic Event Centre, Onikan, Lagos, on July 25, 2026, while Chukwujeku was convicted for hawking N1.3 million in N200 denominations in Lagos on the same date. Both pleaded guilty. The court also ordered the forfeiture of the recovered cash to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
