South-West National Community Food Bank launched

On August 18, 2026, Nigeria's First Lady Remi Tinubu launched the South-West Zonal National Community Food Bank Programme in Nigeria — Ogun State, the fourth zone to receive the initiative. The program targets malnourished children under six, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, providing free nutritious food through food banks located near Primary Healthcare Centres. During the visit, she also commissioned the 108-unit President Muhammadu Buhari Housing Estate and the Gateway Medical Centre of Excellence. The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which declared a state of emergency on food security. The program is implemented in partnership with the Nigeria — National Primary Health Care Development Agency, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and the Agricultural Bank of China. Governor Dapo Abiodun established three food banks in Sagamu, Yewa North, and Abeokuta South, and urged other South-West governors to replicate the model. The launch included distribution of food items to vulnerable residents across the six South-West states.
