The Nigeria — Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and the Nigeria — Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) have agreed to strengthen their collaboration to improve the efficiency, transparency, and investment attractiveness of Nigeria's electricity market. The commitment was made during a visit by NBET's Managing Director, Dr. Ademola Odeyemi, to NISO's office on August 17, 2026. NISO's Managing Director, Engr. Mohammed Bello, emphasized the intertwined responsibilities of the two agencies, with NISO managing the service aspect and NBET managing the energy component. Both leaders identified key areas for cooperation, including market settlement, revenue alignment, and coordination. They also pledged to work together to address liquidity challenges and support the objectives of the Electricity Act 2023 reforms under the leadership of the Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe. The collaboration aims to create a more reliable, transparent, and commercially viable electricity sector, attract investment, and ultimately improve power supply for Nigerians.
