The EOW's findings are likely to reduce regulatory and legal overhang on CapitalG and its former promoter Sameer Gehlaut, potentially supporting investor sentiment. However, the report is not a final judicial ruling, so uncertainty remains until the Supreme Court concludes the proceedings.
The India — Delhi Police India — Economic Offences Wing (EOW) filed a status report before the India — Supreme Court of India on August 11, 2026, in Special Leave Petition (Civil) No. 2993 of 2025, concerning allegations that loans from Indiabulls Housing Finance (IHFL), now CapitalG, were diverted to entities associated with former promoter Sameer Gehlaut. The report, submitted by Additional Commissioner Ravi Kumar S., covered five corporate borrower groups: DLF (company), Vatika, Chordia, Americorp Group, and IndusInd Capital. The EOW found that all 197 loan accounts across these groups were fully repaid and closed, with gross collections of Rs 11,073.77 crore exceeding sanctioned loans of Rs 8,267.86 crore, as certified by N.D. Kapur & Co. The investigation found no financial trail or documentary evidence linking IHFL loan proceeds to investments in Gehlaut-associated entities. Chronological discrepancies were noted: DLF (company)'s Rs 66 crore investment in EMU Realcon preceded the relevant IHFL loan by 17 months, and Vatika's Agnes Developers invested Rs 200 crore more than two years before obtaining its IHFL loan. A Rs 50 crore payment from Built To Live Realty to Indiabulls Real Estate was supported by business documentation and was not found to benefit Gehlaut personally. The EOW examined records from SEBI, the India — National Housing Bank, the India — Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and the India — Enforcement Directorate. The findings weaken the allegations but do not constitute a final judicial determination.
