The agreement is expected to boost lending to micro-enterprises in Bangladesh, potentially improving credit growth and supporting small business activity. It may have a modest positive impact on Bangladesh — Bangladesh Bank's balance sheet and PKSF's operational capacity, while the broader market impact is limited given the fund's targeted nature.
On 19 August 2026, Bangladesh — Bangladesh Bank and the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) signed a Tk 5,000 crore (approximately USD 600 million) agreement to accelerate grassroots economic activity and create sustainable employment by expanding financing for micro-enterprises. The agreement was signed at Bangladesh — Bangladesh Bank headquarters in Dhaka by Nawshad Mustafa, director of BB's SME and Special Programmes Department, and PKSF Managing Director Md Fazlul Kader. The fund, first announced on 23 May 2026, will be operated as a revolving fund to ensure a continuous flow of finance. The programme aims to create 200,000 jobs in the microenterprise sector through three core components: financial services, business-cluster-based value chain development, and skills development for entrepreneurs. PKSF will support promising business clusters across Bangladesh, with a focus on rural and marginalised people, women, and young entrepreneurs. The initiative is expected to strengthen the microenterprise sector as a key driver of inclusive economic growth.
