The assailants, reportedly arriving in an unregistered Sienna bus, opened fire, triggering a 12-15 minute gun battle with the governor's security personnel. The attackers damaged the palace gate and later engaged security near the Osogbo Central Mosque before fleeing towards Ita Olokan. No casualties were reported, according to Nigeria — Osun State Commissioner for Information Kolapo Alimi. The incident caused panic, with residents and traders fleeing and businesses closing. The attack occurred on the same day Adeleke pledged a N500 million Election Violence Victims Endowment Fund. The identity and motive of the attackers remain unclear, and no arrests have been announced.
