Assam CM inaugurates Kamrup DC office

On August 20, 2026, India — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed Integrated District Commissioner's Office Building of Kamrup Metropolitan District at Rupnagar in India — Guwahati. The three-storeyed building, built at a cost of Rs. 81.20 crore and covering approximately 12,700 square metres, is designed to accommodate two additional floors in the future. It features a 350-kilowatt solar power system with provision for an additional 100 kilowatts. The foundation stone was laid on January 5, 2023. During the ceremony, Sarma highlighted the government's decentralization efforts, noting that administrative powers have been delegated from the Secretariat to district-level offices, reducing daily Secretariat visitors from 5,000-6,000 to 600-700. He announced plans to establish registration centres for land and property in India — Guwahati and to create integrated office complexes for district-level departments. The Chief Minister also received the oldest available land record of the Kamakhya Temple, dating back to 1904-05, from the District Commissioner. The event was attended by several ministers, MLAs, and senior officials.
