World-record biomethanol bunkering at Yangshan Port

On August 17, 2026, Shanghai Electric, in partnership with Shanghai International Port Group and CMA CGM, conducted the largest single biomethanol bunkering operation on record at China — Shanghai's China — Yangshan Port, delivering 8,000 metric tons of biomethanol. The fuel was supplied by China — Shanghai Electric's Taonan green methanol project in China — Jilin, which is the world's first large-scale plant producing biomethanol from green electricity and biomass. This operation was supported by a newly established green-fuel transportation corridor connecting China — Jilin, China — Liaoning, and China — Shanghai, with production in Taonan, transit and storage at Port of Dalian, and final bunkering at China — Shanghai Port. The event marks a significant milestone in the adoption of green marine fuels and demonstrates the viability of large-scale biomethanol supply chains. China — Shanghai Electric also announced plans to accelerate construction of the Taonan Phase-II project, which will produce green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel.
