The order boosts L&T's order book and reinforces its position in the Gulf infrastructure market, likely supporting its stock price. For MHI, it expands its APM systems portfolio and strengthens its partnership with L&T, though the financial impact is modest relative to its overall business.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), in consortium with Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has secured a large order to design and build the Automated People Mover (APM) system for Phase 1 of United Arab Emirates — Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai. The order, valued between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore (approximately $300-600 million), was awarded by United Arab Emirates — Dubai South and is being implemented through United Arab Emirates — Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects. The project is part of the airport's multi-phase expansion, which aims to make it the world's largest airport with a capacity of 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of freight annually. L&T will handle design, procurement, delivery, and integration of critical APM infrastructure, including guideways, traction substations, power distribution, signalling, telecommunications, platform screen doors, and depot equipment. The consortium will also manage construction, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness. Phase 1 is scheduled to begin operations in 2032. This is L&T's third consecutive order for the airport, following recent wins in offshore facilities and an AI factory project. The contract strengthens L&T's transportation infrastructure footprint in the Gulf region.
