The doubling of Heirs Holdings' stake signals strong investor confidence in Seplat's post-acquisition growth, boosting its market valuation and potentially attracting further investment. Seplat's improved earnings and reduced leverage support a sustainable rerating, positively impacting its stock price and the broader Nigerian energy sector.
Heirs Holdings, the investment vehicle of Nigerian billionaire Tony Elumelu, acquired a 20.07% stake in Seplat Energy in December 2025 from Maurel & Prom for approximately $500 million. Within eight months, the value of that stake has more than doubled to over $1 billion, driven by a sharp rally in Seplat's share price on both the Nigerian Exchange Group and the Aquis Stock Exchange. Seplat's market capitalization has risen to about $5.24 billion. The rally is supported by strong financial performance following Seplat's acquisition of ExxonMobil — Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) from ExxonMobil, which transformed the company into a larger, more diversified energy producer. In 2025, Seplat's revenue jumped 144% to $2.73 billion, adjusted EBITDA rose 137% to $1.28 billion, and net debt fell 25% to $673.3 million. The momentum continued into H1 2026, with profit before tax up 74% to N790.4 billion and production averaging 139,509 boepd. Elumelu joined Seplat's board in January 2026 and is expected to become chairman in January 2027, aligning ownership with leadership.
