The announcement signals robust festive-season demand in India's e-commerce sector, potentially boosting volumes for Meesho and its logistics partners. It may also reflect positively on the broader Indian retail and logistics industries, though the direct market impact is limited as Meesho is privately held.
Meesho, an Indian e-commerce marketplace, announced on Friday that it expects to create over 10 lakh (1 million) seasonal job opportunities across its seller and logistics ecosystem to meet the surge in demand during the upcoming festive season. The projected employment includes approximately 6.5 lakh jobs across its seller network and about 3.75 lakh roles across its logistics operations. Nearly 1.3 lakh sellers are expected to hire seasonal workers for packaging, manufacturing, production, warehousing, and inventory management. Meesho's logistics arm, Valmo, along with third-party logistics partners, will scale up capacity, with roles spanning delivery, sortation, delivery centre operations, and supervisory functions. The announcement comes as major e-commerce players in India prepare for their annual festive sales, which typically account for a significant portion of yearly volumes.
