The partnership is expected to support the wider adoption of advanced steel products, potentially benefiting Jindal Steel's market position and revenue through increased demand for high-value steel grades. It also enhances IITH's research profile and industry engagement, which may attract further funding and collaborations.
Jindal Steel and the IIT Hyderabad (IITH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Jindal Steel Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the IIT Hyderabad campus. The centre will focus on developing and demonstrating high-strength, value-added and value-engineered steel products and solutions for infrastructure, engineering, construction, defence, power, transportation and other strategic industrial sectors. Jindal Steel will invest in setting up the physical centre, which will combine IITH's technical and research capabilities with Jindal Steel's manufacturing, metallurgical and engineering expertise. The collaboration will include application development programmes, workshops, symposia, industry-academia training, demonstration projects, student internships and placements, and academic modules. The centre will engage with industry stakeholders, government agencies and end users to facilitate technical evaluation and adoption of advanced steel solutions. The initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of high-strength and value-engineered steels by demonstrating their potential to reduce material consumption and structural weight, improve durability, enable faster project execution and enhance lifecycle economics.
