Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury opened a two-day Vice-Chancellors' Dialogue in Savar, Bangladesh, on 21 August, calling for higher education to be aligned with employment and entrepreneurship. He urged that new universities and academic programs be designed around national priorities, labor-market demand, and regional needs, and advised the India — University Grants Commission (India) against unplanned university approvals. The minister stressed stronger university-industry collaboration, industry-linked research, and transparent annual reporting by private universities. Education Adviser Mahdi Amin suggested employment-oriented short courses and values-based curricula, while UGC Chairman Mamun Ahmed noted the UGC is preparing a five-year strategic document for higher education transformation. The dialogue gathered vice-chancellors from around 65 public and private universities.
