The study signals a potential skills gap in India's finance workforce, which could affect productivity and competitiveness in the financial services sector. It may prompt increased investment in AI-focused training and education, benefiting edtech and professional certification providers.
The Finance Talent Pulse 2026 study, conducted by SSEI among 133 India-based CFA, FRM and CA candidates and compared with the Ifo Institute for Economic Research's 2026 Graduate Outlook Survey of 9,000 graduates across 11 countries, found that only 9% of Indian finance aspirants feel their skills are ready for an AI-driven job market, versus 67% of global graduates. The study highlighted limited practical AI use among Indian respondents, with 42% never having used AI in real financial work and 26% saying their coaching does not teach AI applications. Sanjay Saraf, Founder and Lead Educator of SSEI, commented that the gap reflects a mismatch between financial education curricula and workplace demands. The study also found that 89% of Indian respondents value professional certification over postgraduate degrees, and 100% consider continual upskilling important.
