Wushishi elected AEAA VP, Nigeria hosts 2027

At the 42nd Conference of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA) held in Arusha, Tanzania, the General Assembly elected Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, Registrar and Chief Executive of Nigeria's Nigeria — National Examinations Council (NECO), as Vice-President of the AEAA. The assembly also granted Nigeria the right to host the 2027 AEAA Conference in Abuja, scheduled for August 16-20, 2027. These developments reflect growing recognition of Nigeria's influence in educational assessment amid digital transformation and integration of artificial intelligence in testing. Wushishi's election follows his service on the AEAA Executive Council representing the West African sub-region. Since becoming NECO Registrar in 2021, he has introduced reforms to modernise examination administration, expand technological capacity, and strengthen international presence, with NECO examinations now conducted in eight foreign countries. His reappointment as NECO Registrar by President Bola Tinubu earlier in 2026 was seen as an endorsement of his reforms. The 2027 conference is expected to attract policymakers, researchers, and education experts from across Africa, providing Nigeria a platform to showcase its reforms.
