Soldier Liam Potts death manslaughter arrests

Liam Potts, a 22-year-old soldier in the Coldstream Guards, disappeared on 15 August 2026 after a night out and was found dead in the United Kingdom — River Tyne on 18 August. Prior to his disappearance, police received a report of a disturbance and a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrians on United Kingdom — Wylam Bridge. Two men, aged 22 and 23, were initially arrested and bailed in connection with the report, then re-arrested on suspicion of manslaughter on 22 August. They were released on bail later that day. Police confirmed Potts was not in the vehicle and was not struck by it, but entered the water within minutes of the collision. The investigation continues to determine if the collision is linked to his death. A man and woman were seriously injured in the collision; the woman has been discharged, the man remains hospitalized. Potts's family paid tribute to him and thanked rescue teams, including United Kingdom — Maritime and Coastguard Agency and mountain rescue teams, for their search efforts.
