The rise in swine flu cases may increase demand for influenza diagnostics, antivirals, and hospital services in Delhi, potentially benefiting healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies. However, the impact is limited to the public health sector and is unlikely to significantly affect broader financial markets.
The India — Government of Delhi issued a public health advisory as H1N1 (swine flu) cases rose sharply in the national capital. Delhi recorded over 1,777 H1N1 cases and over 2,300 Influenza-A cases this year, with 114 new H1N1 cases on Thursday alone. The advisory urged residents to follow respiratory hygiene, wear masks in crowded places, and seek medical care if symptoms develop. The government placed 35 hospitals under special surveillance and designated AIIMS and the India — National Centre for Disease Control as referral laboratories. Technical guidelines and advisories were sent to district officials and hospitals. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh attended a review meeting chaired by Union Health Minister Jagad Prakash Nadda, confirming no shortage of beds, doctors, or medicines. The Delhi State Health Mission is monitoring the situation through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, with daily reviews and training for healthcare workers.
