Congress Questions Parliament Prorogation Delay

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh noted that the gap between adjournment and prorogation is typically two to four days, but ten days have passed without formal prorogation. He suggested the delay may be linked to the government's attempt to secure a two-thirds majority to pass a Constitution Amendment Bill on delimitation and women's reservation in a possible special session. The Congress has also called for freezing India — Lok Sabha seats at 543 for 25 years and implementing women's reservation from 2029, reiterating this in a India — Congress Working Committee resolution. The bill was previously defeated in April 2026, and the Congress accuses the government of prioritizing political preservation over women's reservation.
