Alfalfa Sprouts E. coli Salmonella Recall

Everything Sprouts LLC, based in Minneapolis, recalled certain lots of alfalfa sprouts and related products on August 22, 2026, after an outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) and Salmonella was linked to the products. As of August 24, 55 illnesses across 15 states were reported, including 46 E. coli infections, 7 Salmonella infections, and 2 co-infections. Four hospitalizations occurred, with no deaths. The recalled products, sold under the Everything Sprouts and Calco brands, were distributed between May 27 and August 21 to wholesalers and grocery stores in United States — Minnesota and United States — Wisconsin. The recall includes alfalfa sprouts in 5-ounce containers, Alfalfa 6/5oz and 12/6/5oz packages, Crunchy Protein Sprout Mix cups, and Zesty Garlic Mix cups with specific lot numbers. The FDA posted the recall notice, and the CDC is investigating. Consumers are advised to discard the products and sanitize surfaces. The outbreak involves Salmonella Agona and three strains of STEC, which is unusual for a single outbreak. The FDA and CDC continue to investigate the source of contamination.
