The visit is expected to boost bilateral trade and investment, particularly in high-technology sectors, potentially benefiting Indian manufacturing and technology companies. Japanese investment commitments could strengthen India's industrial capabilities and reduce reliance on overseas supply chains, positively impacting market sentiment for Indian equities and the rupee.
India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is leading a 200-member business delegation to Japan from August 24 to 27, 2026, marking India's largest-ever business delegation to the country. In Tokyo, Goyal will meet top executives of major Japanese conglomerates, hold a round-table with Japan Business Federation, and have bilateral talks with Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ryosei Akazawa. Dedicated sessions will focus on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, start-ups, and foreign institutional investors. In Nagoya, he will lead a business roadshow with the Central Japan Economic Federation and the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and engage with Japan — Aichi Prefecture leadership and investors in automotive and steel sectors. The visit concludes in Osaka with an investors and business roadshow. The delegation aims to deepen bilateral trade and investment ties, building on Japan's target of 10 trillion yen (about Rs 60,000 crore) in investment in India over a decade. Bilateral trade reached $27.47 billion in FY2025-26, and Japan is India's fifth-largest source of FDI. The visit follows the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit in July and is expected to give fresh momentum to high-technology manufacturing and next-generation industries, supporting India's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat @2047.
