Russia plans 300,000 troop mobilization

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia is likely to mobilize an additional 300,000 troops later this year, following Russian parliamentary elections in September, as part of efforts to complete the capture of Ukraine — Donetsk. Zelensky claimed Russia has lost 267,000 personnel since the start of the year, including around 155,000 killed, figures that are unconfirmed but in line with Western estimates. He warned that Russia might also attempt incursions into Ukraine — Kharkiv and Ukraine — Sumy. On air defenses, Zelensky highlighted a decline in MIM-104 Patriot supplies from the United States, contrasting 675 missiles in 2023 with a forecast 264 this year, and requested the US supply up to 10% of its Patriot stocks. He also noted shortages of Aster (missile family)s from Europe despite a pledge by Emmanuel Macron. The United Kingdom agreed to allow MBDA to release classified information to help Ukraine build Storm Shadows, ahead of a visit by Andy Burnham. Zelensky also discussed efforts to gain SpaceX — Starlink access, but Elon Musk expressed concerns about escalation and denied access. Negotiations involving US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner continue, with Zelensky suggesting a window for ending the war through next summer.
