Osun post-election reconciliation call

Following the August 15 governorship election in Nigeria — Osun State, the state government issued a statement on Sunday urging all political actors and residents to embrace post-election reconciliation and peace-building. The government, through Commissioner for Information Kolapo Alimi, expressed condolences to victims of pre-election violence and voiced concern over post-election disruptions in some areas. It warned against alleged plans by stakeholders to trigger fresh crises in local government councils and motor parks, calling for an immediate stop to such actions. The government declared that the election has been won and lost, and noted that President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ademola Adeleke have engaged on a peaceful way forward. It also called on security agencies to enforce the rule of law, including releasing political detainees and ending perceived partisan policing. Governor Adeleke separately commended APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji for his peace advocacy after meeting with President Tinubu.
