PTI demands Imran Khan cardiac test

Pakistan — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded that jailed former prime minister Imran Khan undergo a CT coronary angiography at Shifa International Hospital, after the recommended cardiac test was not performed during his recent visit to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram said a government medical board examined Imran on August 10, and a PIMS cardiologist had recommended the test on August 1 due to fluctuating blood pressure and potential cardiac risks. Akram alleged that despite a functional CT scanner at PIMS, hospital officials claimed the facility was unavailable, and Imran was returned to Central Jail Rawalpindi without the test. He accused authorities of bypassing a Supreme Court order that directed Imran's medical care at Shifa International Hospital. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed an inquiry committee to investigate the failure. The Supreme Court had ordered on August 18 that Imran be shifted to Shifa International Hospital, but the government transferred him to PIMS on August 20, citing security concerns. PTI has demanded immediate performance of the test at Shifa, disclosure of medical records, and a transparent inquiry.
