The potential investment signals Nvidia's deepening strategic involvement in the AI ecosystem, potentially strengthening demand for its chips and securing early access to emerging AI products. Perplexity's valuation jump reflects strong investor enthusiasm for AI search and agent tools, which could positively affect the broader AI sector and related stocks.
Nvidia is in discussions to invest in AI search startup Perplexity as part of an equity funding round that would value the company at more than $30 billion, according to The Information. The funding round would increase Perplexity's valuation by more than 50% from its previous financing a year ago. Perplexity's annualized revenue has risen to more than $750 million from less than $250 million at the start of the year, driven partly by Perplexity Computer, a cloud-based AI agent. Nvidia had earlier considered licensing its technology or hiring Perplexity staff before shifting toward a direct equity investment. Perplexity declined to comment, and Nvidia did not immediately respond. Perplexity is planning to go public in 2028, according to CEO M. D. Srinivas. The startup's backers include Jeff Bezos, SoftBank Group, Accel-KKR, and IVP.
