Tahir Hussain appeals life sentence in Ankit Sharma murder

Former India — Municipal Corporation of Delhi councillor and India — Aam Aadmi Party member Tahir Hussain Andrabi has filed an appeal in the India — Delhi High Court challenging his conviction and life sentence in the murder of India — Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the February 2020 North East Delhi riots. The Karkardooma Courts Complex had convicted Hussain and four others on July 13 and sentenced them to life imprisonment on July 31, while acquitting six other accused and rejecting the prosecution's plea for the death penalty. Hussain's appeal, expected to be heard next week, argues that the investigation was tainted and that his conviction was based on vicarious liability rather than specific role. Three other convicts have also filed appeals, and the India — Delhi Police has indicated it will challenge the acquittals.
