The inaugural Economic and Financial Dialogue between India and Canada was held in Toronto, led by Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne and Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The dialogue aims to strengthen cooperation in macroeconomic developments, the financial sector, bilateral investment, and shared international economic priorities. Champagne described the two economies as 'uniquely complementary,' with Canada providing energy and food security to India, and India offering scale, talent, and technology to Canada. The ministers also discussed bilateral trade, which stood at around USD 8 billion in 2025-26, and reaffirmed the target of reaching USD 50 billion by 2030. The two countries are also negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Sitharaman's visit includes investment and business roundtables and meetings with Canadian companies in sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals.
