The visit is expected to boost investor confidence in India by showcasing its investment opportunities and economic outlook to US and Canadian business leaders. Participation in the G20 finance track allows India to influence global economic discussions, potentially enhancing its standing in international financial markets.
Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in the United States on August 28, 2026, for a six-day visit as part of a nine-day Canada-US tour. The visit includes participation in the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, on August 31 and September 1, under the US presidency. In Chicago and New York, she will hold investor roundtables and one-to-one meetings with CEOs and senior executives to promote investment opportunities in India and strengthen economic ties. She will also visit the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago and ring the bell at Nasdaq. The visit follows her three-day trip to Canada, where she attended the inaugural India-Canada Economic and Financial Dialogue in Toronto.
