On September 2, 2026, on the sidelines of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga to discuss strengthening the partnership between India and the World Bank Group. The discussions focused on deepening corporate, infrastructure, and municipal bond markets through the systematic use of guarantees and greater mobilization of private capital, including exploring a larger role for the International — Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) in India.
