Borno Commissioner Apologizes for Threat Remark

Saina Buba, the Nigeria — Borno State Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Youths and Sports, made controversial remarks during an empowerment programme organized by the City Boy Movement in Maiduguri. He stated, 'Whoever shows us a finger, we will show him a finger... Whoever dares to show us a finger again, we will break his finger.' The comments sparked public criticism and were perceived as a threat against political opponents. Following the backlash, Buba formally retracted his statement and apologized, clarifying that his remarks were not intended to be taken literally and did not represent the views of the Nigeria — All Progressives Congress or the administration of Governor Babagana Zulum. The Nigeria — Nigeria Police Force launched investigations into inciting statements by Buba, Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, and Francis Fadahunsi, who allegedly threatened members of the Nigeria — Accord Party. The police urged restraint and warned that inciting public statements could constitute criminal offences.
